Hi! I’m Josh
Hello, my name is Josh aka (Urban Armed).
I live in southern Colorado and I spend as much time out in it as I can — running the truck up high-country trails, sleeping in a rooftop tent, and shooting video and photos the whole way. This site is where I put all of it: builds, gear reviews, trailers, tents, and the occasional rig I’ve decided to move on from.
What you’ll find here
Everything I write about, I’ve owned and used — not for a weekend, but for seasons. I slept 130-plus nights in my CVT Mt. Shasta before I wrote a word about it. I researched my trailer for the better part of a year and walked Overland Expo West crawling through every one I could find before I bought. That’s the standard: if I haven’t lived with it, I don’t review it.
It also means I’ll tell you what I don’t like. I ran Demello sliders for years before I switched to PAKRAX, and I’ll tell you exactly why. I’ll tell you when a company’s customer service drops the ball. And I’ll tell you when a piece of gear isn’t worth your money — a rooftop tent is a great buy if you’re out 20 or 30 nights a year, and a very expensive mistake if you’re not.
Buy once, cry once. But buy the right thing.
The rig
2019 Tacoma TRD Off-Road — King coilovers and rear shocks, Icon upper control arms and leaf pack, Baja Designs lighting run through an sPOD Bantam, Factor 55 recovery gear, PAKRAX sliders and bed bars, rolling on BFG KO2s. Built over a week down in Gilbert, Arizona with Jay and Erick at State 48 Overland, with my dad along for the ride.
Behind it sits a Mission Overland Summit, which I bought specifically because I can sit inside it and work. I run a digital marketing agency called Press Check Marketing from the road, so the trailer had to be a basecamp and an office both.
Working with brands
I really enjoy trying out new gear, providing feedback and sharing my thoughts with my readers and subscribers on my YouTube channel. I have a passion for working with brands in the outdoor / adventure / overlanding industries — testing products and providing constructive, honest reviews for the audiences those products are built for.
